The Education Minister said in an interview that Thisterm.com was able to see that he decided to go back to Ghana after meeting President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who was pleased with his work in the state of California's educational system.

Speaking about how he went from being the illiterate farmer's son to being Ghana's Minister of Education, he claimed that his younger brother had to sell his pig to enable his father earn the money he needed to send him to senior high school.

I was raised in extreme poverty as the son of a cocoa grower. We picked the cocoa, piled it in one spot, cracked the pods, fermented it, then moved the fermented seeds onto the drying pad while on vacation and weeding around the cocoa trees. With God's blessing, we bring it to the shed to be sold when it dries out so your father may gain some cash.

It wasn't cocoa season and there wasn't any money when I passed the common entry and was meant to proceed to secondary school. My dad was having financial difficulties, so he brought me with him from country to village while pleading with other cocoa farmers for loans so he could save up 40 cedis, which would be my deposit for attending school. I was about to run out of luck when my younger brother made the decision to sell a pig he owned.

"Thanks to that, I was able to continue my education. I attended Kumasi Senior High School (6th form) and Tech (Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology) before arriving in the United States. There, I became actively involved in the Ghanaian community and rose from my position as secretary of the Ghana Association of Southern California to president. The minister of education is the son of an illiterate mother and father, but it isn't ironic, I often tell people," he said.
