Report: Google is still desired as a "option" despite Apple's agreement with OpenAI for iOS

A reliable writer has reported that Apple and OpenAI have struck an agreement to include chatbot capabilities in iOS 18.

The iPhone maker is still negotiating with Apple to provide Google's Gemini as a "option."

As we have previously reported, Apple was discussing AI capabilities for iOS 18 with Google and OpenAI. It appears that Apple and ChatGPT have struck an agreement now.
In his Power On email, Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman revealed that Apple and OpenAI had established an agreement for OpenAI to supply chatbot capabilities in iOS 18. This deal, he said, will be a "component" of Apple's June WWDC developer conference.

Apple appears to be averse to putting all of its cloud AI eggs in one basket, though. Gurman says the iPhone manufacturer is still negotiating with Google to provide Gemini as a "option," but we shouldn't anticipate this to be announced next month.

Prior leaks indicated that Apple is developing its own Ajax AI model for text analysis, intelligent responses, and summaries on the go. ChatGPT and other OpenAI technology will therefore logically be employed for image creation, extended text analysis, and other similarly taxing jobs.

In any event, Apple should have some breathing room thanks to the OpenAI agreement because it obviously develops its own chatbot, much as it did with Google Maps before introducing Apple Maps.

Apple AI news isn't limited to this; Gurman also mentioned that iOS 18 may include other AI capabilities and the ability to create own emoji.
