The contemporary gospel musician Joe Mettle has urged Kwame Mickey and Team Eternity Ghana to settle their legal battle peacefully over copyright infringement pertaining to the song "Defe Defe."
During his appearance on Citi FM's Breakfast Show, Joe Mettle stressed the need of music registration and the use of appropriate publishing channels in order to avoid situations like this.
He emphasized the value of preserving classic tunes and recommended that these conflicts be settled peacefully, particularly when just a sample is involved rather than the whole song.
"In my opinion, songs that are released should be properly registered and published on publishing platforms. This way, even if someone samples the song or does anything else, the system will automatically detect the original content and there won't be any issues. As you can see, some of these explanations also contribute to the fact that many classic songs are being lost—some songs just shouldn't end. It has to be recorded again.I am aware that permission must be obtained, but not even the person you need to ask will know that you are recording. We are losing a lot of songs, so sometimes you may search and search and find nothing. In my opinion, even with this Team Eternity problem, they could have simply resolved it peacefully since it was just a sample and not the whole song.
